Title : EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO HUMAYUN’S TOMB AND LODHI GARDENS (2018-19)

DATE   : 13TH DECEMBER 2018

CLASS:  IX

On 13th December 2018, an educational trip to Humayun’s Tomb, one of the hot spots for the visitors in the capital, was organized for the students of class IX.  Students accompanied by their teachers explored the tomb complex which is a synthesis of Persian and Indian traditions of architecture.

The tomb is considered the first garden tomb built in the Indian subcontinent and was the first to use the Persian double dome. The students observed and appreciated the extensive use of red sandstone, the perfect symmetry and geometric Islamic patterns as well as traces of Hindu culture and art.

The tomb, which is an architectural masterpiece, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993.

The tour guide imparted valuable information to the students while he took them around and the students asked questions about the tomb and the Mughal period. Later they were also given handouts about the same.

Thereafter the next stop was the magnificent Lodhi Gardens where the students enjoyed a picnic lunch and played on the grounds. They also took a heritage walk and learnt about the National Park, which is home to a wide variety of miniature trees.

On the whole it was an enriching experience and an informative trip.
