Title : SPORTS DAY JUNIOR SCHOOL (2018-19)

The Annual Sports Day of the Junior Wing was held on 15th December, 2018 on the school ground in a frolicsome atmosphere.

 

The event was marked by a string of spectacular performances presented by the little champs of the school, who were brimming with enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The day began with the welcome of the Chief Guest, Lieutenant Colonel Jagtar Singh who graced the occasion with hisbenign presence. The grand welcome ceremony by the 17th Sikh Light Infantry Band left one and all in awe. The little lads of all sections of Classes 1,2 and 3 led by their respective flag bearers, marched in synchrony to the beat of the drum. The March Past was dedicated to the

 

promotion of Sustainable Developmental Goals of the UN. The representatives from each section held placards with messages to create awareness for the same. The Torch Relay was led by the PTI, Mrs Kamla Dubey who was escorted by the young Columbans who have excelled in various Sports and brought laurels to our school. The blazing flames of the torch symbolized the light and the passion of the sporting spirit. John Stenny from class 3A led the boys in taking the oath affirming our faith in fair play. The boys gave a lively rendition of the inspiring number by Delta Goodrem- “Together we are one “- led by the Junior School Choir. This was followed by an astounding inaugural dance performance by class 3 students which invited huge applause from the parents and guests. The sporting gala was graced by the presence of our honourable Principal, Br. Miranda, Br. Steve Rocha, Mr. Naresh Chopra, Headmaster, Senior Wing, Mrs Sangeeta Sheel, Headmistress, Middle Wing, Mrs Ritu Kaushal, Headmistress, Junior Wing and Mrs Meenakshi Chadha, a renowned educationist. The meet commenced with track races for the boys of different classes. The enthusiastic runners had their eyes set on the the finishing line.

 

It was a delight to see the zestful young champs sprinting in their track lanes. Dressed in colourful costumes and carrying captivating Pom- Poms the tiny tots of Kindergarten and class 1 won the hearts of the audience with their endearing drill performances. The students of class 2 presented an energising exercise drill with glittering hoops in their hands. The two spectacular drill performances by the students of class 3 were a perfect blend of rhythmic aerobic exercises, strength training and stretching performed on the beats of the foot tapping chart buster – Brazil.

 

The highlight of the morning were the two very special events – the Grandfather’s race and the ‘Tug of War’ between the teachers and the mothers of the students. Both the sporting events saw very enthusiastic participation by the grandparents and the mothers. They were encouraged with loud cheering by the boys which filled the air with much excitement. At the finale of the sports meet, the winners were felicitated with medals and trophies amidst thunderous applause. The Chief Guest, Lieutenant Colonel Jagtar Singh appreciated the display of great sportsmanship by the young Columbans. The honourable Principal, Br. Miranda encouraged the students to always put their best foot forward through his motivational speech. The Headmistress of the Junior Wing, Mrs. Ritu Kaushal applauded the efforts of the students with her uplifting words. Finally the Annual Sports Meet came to an end leaving behind cherished memories for one and all.

 

 

The Chief Guest, Lieutenant Colonel Jagtar Singh and our honourable Principal, Br. Miranda declared the Annual Sports Meet open by releasing the balloons in shades of the Columban green and gold. The soaring free-spirited balloons signified the aspirations of young Columbus to reach for the skies.
