Title : A VISIT TO THE ARYA MAHILA ASHRAM – RAJENDRA NAGAR (2018-19)

With the growth in Technology and the way this is moving digitally today, we hardly see people like our grandparents with beautiful, snowy white hair and a wonderful and loving smile on their faces.

On spelling this phrase, we began the Outreach programme on the 28th January 2019, for the Students of Class 4E along with their class teachers Mr. Sam Alexander, Coordinator Ms. Aarti and Mrs. Candidianna Stevens to the Arya Mahila Ashram.
The Entire Class started their visit from the School at 8:45 A.M. in a bus to Ashram. On reaching the Ashram the School Boys were greeted by a Team of Youngster from an NGO called Twinkle Organisation “KhushiyonkiUdaan” who gave an overview about the Women residing in the Ashram.

The Arya Mahila Ashram is an old women’s home. It is a multi-residence housing facility intended for the elderly women. There are 97 old educated ladies residing in the ashram. Typically, each woman in the ashram has an apartment-style room along with the basic amenities like kitchen, Bed, Sofa or Table & Chair. Additional facilities are provided within the ashram include facilities for meals, gatherings, recreation activities, and some form of health or hospitable care facilities. Regular check-up is conducted on every Monday. It has around 108 Single Rooms.

The Day starts early where the Ladies awake at around 4 A.M. and gather in the prayer room where they conduct a “Havan”. There is a general kitchen which also caters food for people who work and reside in the ashram.
There is a sitting area which looks like an auditorium where they meet and have a get together. Wherever there is a visit or a function which is being organised in the Ashram there is a “Gong” sounded which makes all the ladies in the Ashram aware that someone has come to visit them.

The Class 4E visit started with 02 wonderful inmates who came forward and taught the Children a song “bacche man kesaccha” and a beautiful poem. They spoke to the boys about Gandhi Ji, Freedom fighters and their teaching.

They spoke on the importance of Food and the protection of other life forms which we humans enjoy as part of our meals and to avoid unnecessary killing of animals.

The Boys learnt some new physical exercises which followed by a heart whelming March past. The Twinkle group divided the boys into 04 groups and played games with them like Tug-of-War, Limbo etc. Post which refreshment was served.

Later, the boys were taken around the Ashram where they discussed and asked questions. They were so inquisitive about each one of them.

The ladies shared their knowledge and stories with the Boys which brought both laughter and joy. At the end of the visit the boys were given a chocolate. They all left for school with beautiful memories and smiles in their faces.
