Title : ROAD SAFETY WEEK (2018-19)

With reference to letter no. RT 25029/07/2018-R5 government of India ministry of road transport and highways (road safety) St. Columba’s school had observed 30th National Road Safety Week from 4th to 10th  February 2019 .

St. Columba’s is already a member of road safety club and is doing various activities from time to time to create awareness amongst the students, however a special effort was made between 4th  February to 10th  February to participate in the celebration of a week long Road Safety Campaign.

We conducted special Assemblies which talked about various road safety norms.  Role play was also done to generate awareness amongst the students. The teachers were asked to include road safety as an objective in their lesson plan. The students were shown videos and quiz was also conducted on road safety. A special assembly was conducted in which the zonal in charge inspector Pushpal Kaur was also invited. She too enlightened the students about Road Safety

On 7th February we formed a human chain in our school ground to sensitise the students toward following the road safety signs, around 1500 students along with the teachers participated. It was coordinated by Ms. Vandana Sharma and Ms. Vandana Kasana who belonged to an NGO run by HELLA INDIA LIGHTING.

On 8th of February our school also participated in the event, Coming Together of 1 Crore Hands, to save 400 lives per day which was conducted at India gate There were children from other schools as well. It also had volunteers from NCC and other organisations. A human chain was formed and 2 minutes silence was also observed to pay homage to all those who had lost their lives on road due to negligence leading to accidental deaths .The slogans of road safety were also raised

There were many NGO representatives present on the venue including Mr. Rama Shankar Pandey MD D2S Club Drive Smart Drive Safe and Mrs Meenakshi, Director SIAM. Radio Mirchi was live reporting the event.

The weeklong event has definitely played an important role in generating awareness amongst students and various other stake holders. In future also our school will continue to sensitize the students and other staff members to contribute to the cause of road safety by taking up various activities to promote the concept.
