Title : EARTH HOUR (2019-20)

Earth Hour is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The event is held annually, encouraging people and communities to turn off electric lights for one hour as a symbol to mark their commitment to the planet.

It was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to become a worldwide practice to create awareness about energy preservation.

We at St. Columba’s School, Junior Wing came together to join our hands in protecting our Mother Earth.

On 5th April, all electronic devices, fans, lights, etc., were switched off in the Junior Wing from 11am to 12 noon to mark the Earth Hour.

The enthusiastic boys presented an interesting assembly to create awareness and promote this action as an effort of the young Columbans in energy preservation.

The assembly had a soulful start with a short meditation session, followed by the confident speakers elaborating the simple measures to be adopted to conserve our planet.

A student dressed up as Mother Earth, representing the mascot, gave a message to his fellow mates to follow the three R s - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle our planet’s natural resources.

It was followed by a poem which appealed to d boys to do their little bit to save the Earth.

The assembly culminated in a beautiful rendering of the song - Water is for Life.

The Junior Wing Headmistress, Mrs Ritu Kaushal was all praises for the efforts of the students and teachers and wholeheartedly encouraged the initiative for celebrating the Earth Hour.
