Title : IDEATHON 2019 FOR SCHOOL

Indian road safety campaign organised Ideathon 2019 for school students.  It is being organised as a part of the International Conference on road safety.  IIT Delhi has taken this initiative due to increasing deaths of students in road accidents.  The campaign is supported by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and United Nations Institute of Training and Research. This International conference was organised on the 30th and 31st of May at LHC, IIT Delhi. In accordance with its slogan "Think for Safer India". The competition laid emphasis on suggesting ideas on Road safety related issues and How to incorporate those ideas to curb accidents.
  
The competition was held in three rounds. In the First round each team had to present an abstract idea in 150 words. Four teams with four boys each had participated from St. Columba’s School. Top 30 teams qualified for the Second round.  One of our teams comprising- Utkrist,Rahul, Srivatsa and Debargha of class10 - E qualified for the Second round. In this round the team had to submit their complete proposal in 750 words. Top 15 teams qualified for the final round. 
St. Columba’s team also qualified for the final round and were invited to participate at the conference on 30th and 31st May, 2019.

The team accompanied by Mrs.Manju Singh Rawat participated in this International conference of two days. On 30th May after the introductory events we had set up our stall along with the stalls of other participants. Many government and other officials visited our stall. The boys took turns to explain to the visitors about their device. The students from few other states also participated.

The team had their presentation before the jury on 31stMay. Utkrist,Rahul, Debargha and Srivatsa collectively made their presentation which was followed by question answer round. The team had chosen Driver behaviour as a cause of road accidents. They incorporated a device in the model which would prevent collision.

Pre Collision System uses an in vehicle camera and millimeters wave radar to help detect the vehicle in front of your vehicle.  It prompts the driver to take evasive action and apply brakes by using audiovisual alerts. 
The model also had a dynamic radar Cruise Control system which helps vehicle travel at a constant speed set by the driver .It also has a control mode which assist the driver in helping to maintain a pre-set distance.

 St. Columba’s got the Third position and won a prize money of Rs. 5000.. It was a great achievement as the boys participated in the group meant for classes 9 to 12.The boys also got the chance to listen to various panel discussions. The panels consisted of representatives from various Unions & state government officials, corporate, NGO's and also representative from Germany, UK and Sweden. It was a very educative and fruitful sessions of two days.
