Title : SYMSCI (2019-20)

The annual Science Symposium, SYMSCI for class 10 was held on 31st July,2019. 
Sevenprestigious schools participated in the symposium.
There were two areas of participation - PowerPoint presentations and Model Making.
The topic for Power Point presentations was LIFE PROCESSES and for the models and exhibits was TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATION.

The young scientists presented extremely informative presentations before the esteemed jury which comprised of three judges.

1)    Dr. Syed Mohd. MoosiRaza ,alumini St Columba's, batch of 2013. He's done his MBBS from HIMSR, New Delhi and is currently doing his clinical rotations at the HAHC hospital. An above average student throughout his MBBS, he holds a gold medal in pharmacology. He has participated and stood first in a number of debates in various fests throughout his medical school life and most notably stood second at the Dr SK Sen Memorial debate organised by the Delhi medical association. Currently he is working on two research papers "glaucoma in phakiciols"  and "incidence of microangiopathic Anemia in patients with chronic kidney disease due to diabetes" 
A gym enthusiast and v-logger, he aims to pursue a masters in medicine in the future.

2)     Dr. RaghavGulati  graduated from St. Columba’s School in 2011. He was the topper of the biology stream and subsequently completed his MBBS from Safdarjung Hospital in 2016. Dr.Raghav is now pursuing his post graduation in the field of ophthalmology (eye specialist) from RML Hospital.
His friends know him for his quick wit and enthusiasm for cricket .

3)    Mr. Manan Gulati is pursuing MBBS from Dr Baba SahebAmbedkar Medical College, Delhi and is a university rank holder. He has worked on quite a few interesting projects like Drug resistance in tuberculosis and diagnosis and management of sexually transmitted  diseases etc. Notably, he was also the winner of the Sym-Sci of 2013-14, with his team delivering a splendid presentation on Coronary Artery Disease and Heart Attack. He graduated St. Columba’s School in 2016 as the topper of medical science stream. 

Manan is also an ardent drummer, a passion that helps him to relax and express himself.

The audience was completely mesmerized and the judges spellbound seeing the exceptional hard work put in by all the students. It was a great learning experience which truly inspired all.

The models / exhibits wereextremely innovative.They reflected immense hard work and research by the students to bring about their application in daily life.

The judges were

1)    Prof. SushilAuluck, alumini St Columba’s School 1961 batch.:His research includes  Experimental: dhva effect measurements, Theoretical : Electronic band structure,Fermi surfaces, magnetism, Optical, transport properties of metals and inter-metallic compounds using PPs,interpolation,KKR,mixedbasis,LMTO,FPLAPW,FLMTO methods. He has attended 80 conferences and has published about 270 papers. Prof. Auluck has worked in number of universities and is presently working with NPL Delhi and IIT Delhi. 

2)    Assistant professor Shruti Chopra is working as in the Department of Elementary Education at Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi. She teaches courses related to Science, School Planning and Classroom Management. She holds a Masters degree in Physics and Education from University of Delhi and is currently pursing PhD in the area of Science Education. She has been guiding pre-service teachers in conducting action-research projects focusing on understanding children’s learning processes in science and developing innovative pedagogical strategies to improve classroom processes. Her areas of research interest include use of Technology in enhancing the teaching-learning of Physics and Professional development of science teachers. 

However, at the end of the day, the results were as follows:

St.Columba’s School (first position), St. Thomas School (second position) and Sardar Patel Vidhalaya (third position) in the powerpoint presentations.
And

St. Columba’s School (first position), Tagore International  (second position) and Carmel Convent School (third position) in themodel making competition.

However being the host school, we gracefully passed the winning trophy to the runners up in both the areas of participation.
