To be supportive of and engaging in a community and to have a hope filled future is a common ground upon which the Edmund Rice Schools stand united and firm. A group of Australian students, teachers and a Principal from the flexi school network visited St. Columba’s School on 24th September bringing in a fresh perspective to our young Columbans. A warm and traditional welcome with a bit of foot tapping on dhol, some great performance by young lads of SCS and a one on one interaction with a few senior school boys over lunch was a great day of learning for us. The guests were all praise for the boys of senior school and were inspired by the warmth, respect and love our young Columbans brought to them. A visit to the Bangla Sahib and Dilli Hatt was an out of the world experience for them and our boys did their best to be at service explaining the culture and diversity to our guests. The Flexi schools are very different from our regular average notion of schools. The Edmund Rice Education Flexible Learning Centres are places of learning where people with an amazing mix of personalities, histories, life experiences, behaviours, stories and expectations come together to study. Such challenging work can only be done when it’s based on relationships. Understanding each other well to work towards a better future is a big lesson we learn from the Flexi School Network. Their visit greatly inspired them about India and they would love to visit again.
