On 12th of October 2019, Eco Justice “Samvaad” Society organised the Panchtatva Mela.
The word 'Panchatatva' originates from Sanskrit, where "Panch" stands for five and "Tatva" indicates elements. Following the universal law of life, everything on this planet is composed of five basic elements or the "Panchamahabhutas". These are Akash (Sky or Space), Vayu (Air), Jal(Water), Agni (Fire) and Prithvi (Earth). Each of the units of the Mela was related to the Panchtatva:
We had invited a potter to showcase their craft as well as to sell the beautiful sculptures and pottery. It was an eco-friendly initiative to discard the harmful plastics which constitute our everyday decoration.
Fire is the most pure form of energy, and energy symbolises woman. We supported women empowerment by helping out an elderly lady to become financially independent. Husband of this lady has been paralysed and she earns her bread by selling her delicious, homemade snacks. Ms Nazma (Domestic servant) prepares delicious coconut laddoo and sold them.
We are always inspired by the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. This time we have focussed on all 17 SDGs and students of class 9 Eco club conducted various games based on SDGs, wherein boys played games by giving 5 news paper.
To empower underprivileged women and make them self sufficient, we invited Ms Shanaz ( Domestic maid), who uses her free time to prepare handicraft items from waste material and by this way helping to reduce, reuse and recycle the plastic.
Chetnalaya NGO from Jahangirpuri also put their stall and sold environment friendly things like Jute bag, File cover, Plants etc.
This event was a great learning opportunity for the students and visitors.
