Title : DNA FINGERPRINTING AND MORE…  (2019-20)

The biology batch of class 12th visited the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources

The class 12 biology students of St. Columba’s school had the opportunity to visit the National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (NBPGR) at the Pusa campus. The aim of the visit was to increase the interests of the students with regards to the subject with a more pragmatic approach, giving insights on the researching expertise, which in turn strengthened their theoretical concepts. Dr. Celia Chalam, a senior faculty member of the virology department, guided the group throughout the expedition. The students were briefed on concepts and procedures in the field of genetic engineering and DNA fingerprinting. The group had a hands-on experience with certain research equipment under the supportive supervision of the departmental officials. The trip was an informative and enriching experience for the students. Unlike a conventional visit, the students were given the privilege to operate and use a variety of resources ranging from the small yet fascinating petri dish to the towering electron microscope. This trip was made possible only through the support and initiative taken by the Senior School Biology teacher, Mrs. V. Chauhan and the laboratory In-Charge, Mr. O. P. Singh.
