Title : WORKSHOP “ELT AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGIES” - JUNIOR WING ( 2019-20 )

Attended by Ms. Caroline Utarid and Ms. Upasna Kamboj (Junior Wing )

On the 30th of November, 2019 Oxford University Press organised a workshop on ‘ELT and Assessment Strategies in the changing scenario‘. The resource person, Mrs. Gayatri Khanna, a renowned Author and Educational Consultant- CBSE and NCERT, discussed about the ways and strategies to improve spoken and written English among students. The workshop attended by Ms. Caroline Utarid and Ms. Upasna Kamboj from the Junior Wing began with an interactive discussion about the CBSE learning outcomes and the various subject enrichment techniques.

Mrs Khanna explained the Art Integration approach in which lessons are taught and assessed through naturally-aligned art concepts. Through this approach, students are given the opportunity to build understanding through various art forms that readily align themselves to the given objectives. She suggested the use of puppetry, visual arts, drama, role play, poetry, etc., in teaching language. Much stress was laid on the use of Subject Enrichment activities for internal assessment in the classroom. The resource person drew the attention of the participant teachers to PSA (Problem Solving Assessment) to evaluate the skills of verbal communication, analytical reasoning, critical thinking, creative thinking and decision making among students.

Educators were also encouraged to use Graphic Organizers to explain concepts and establish relations between the sub- concepts.
The workshop culminated with an interactive discussion. It was an interesting and enriching experience for the teachers who attended the session.
