Title : SPECIAL ASSEMBLY - “I AM DIFFERENT, NOT LESS!” ( 2019-20 )

In St. Columba’s School, we propagate inclusive education and firmly believe in the uniqueness of each child. To mark the World Disability Day which is celebrated worldwide on 3rd December, students going to the Learning Center participated in a special assembly addressing the problems of ostracization of the differently abled on various grounds in the school set-up.
The assembly conducted on the 29th of November, began on a prayerful note followed by a short skit depicting different forms of physical and psychological predicaments like speech impairment, eyesight impairment, blindness, academic difficulties, etc. The enactment highlighted the stigma attached to the same which results in exclusion of such children in the school set-up. However, the motivation of the children was restored when they were reminded of a multitude of talents each one of us is blessed with. The moral of the skit beautifully explained that each one of us is different, yet not less from the other.
The students also presented a novel rap song adapted from a poem based on the diversity of the world and uniqueness of the individuals living in it.
Performing on a peppy song, the boys impressed all with their Zumba Dance.
The assembly culminated with a heart warming tribute to the deaf and dumb of the society by our students as they presented the National Anthem in sign language. This special assembly surely sensitised our students towards accepting and appreciating differences in the society.
