National Institute of Solar Energy(NISE), an autonomous institution of Ministry of New and Renewable (MNRE), is the apex National R&D institution in the field of Solar Energy. It is located on Gurugram-Faridabad road, about 8 km from central Gurugram and about 25 km from India Gate. It has 200 acre campus in which solar panels of different sizes and forms have been installed, carrying out variety of tasks.

The institute is involved in demonstration, standardization, interactive research, training and testing solar technologies and systems. It is an interface between the Government and institutions, industry & user organizations for development, promotion and widespread utilization of solar energy in the country. Solar Energy being the future energy source of the world, it is imperative that the students become aware of the same.

Dr. A.K.Tripathi, Director General of NISE , personally chalked out the entire guided tour. Though he couldn’t be present as there was a death in his family but the arrangement made was flawless. The visit to NISE was very well organized and informative. It was an educational  trip where the students came to know how Solar Energy can be harnessed to meet our needs. At NISE all the energy requirements of the campus are being met with the solar energy and makes it a “net zero energy campus”.  Students were given detailed interactive sessions on the various aspects of the functioning. The officials from NISE explained and also showed the following aspects of the functioning:-

1. Concentrated solar thermal system

2. Solar water heating system

3. Solar powered cold storage and battery

4. Solar powered Clean Drinking water ATM system.

5. Solar thermal Air-conditioning System

6. Solar PV based hydrogen generation , storage and dispensing facility

It was a very systematically organized guided tour of the entire campus. The officials were very warm and friendly. The students and accompanying staff members were offered snacks. Although the campus is far, but the knowledge gained was worth the effort. Students enjoyed and came back enriched.
