The meet began with a welcome address by Gaurav Shrinagesh, CEO, Penguin Random House, India who extended a warm welcome to one and all present there. This was followed by an interesting workshop by Andrea Bowie who brought to light the importance of stories in the lives of children. She urged the educators and librarians to bring stories to life by fuelling the imagination of students and encouraging them to dream big.
The panel discussion which followed invited responses from the participant librarians about the selection and rejection of books. The discussion was headed by authors Deepak Dalal and Dr Tanushree Singh who engaged in conversations with the educators and mentioned that it is imperative to provide books to children as per their reading capabilities and hence, as librarians it is our duty to assess the same.
Honourable Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi, Mr Manish Sisodia presented the keynote address.
He read excerpts from his recently published book - “Shiksha” ; which talks about his experiments and experiences as an education minister. He elaborated how he has actively worked towards improving the infrastructure of libraries in government schools. He laid much emphasis on the importance of libraries and inculcating good reading habits among students at an early age.
The librarian meet was a memorable experience for the participants.
