Title : ANNUAL ONLINE INTER-SCHOOL FEST – UNNAT 2020

I will spin you a tale!

Tell you a rhyme…

What happened once upon a time…?

'There is no greater power on this Earth than story,' – Libba Bray

Stories play an unparalleled role in the lives of young ones. Children have an innate love of stories. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder at the world. They not only teach about life but also in a unique way help children develop understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, and can promote a positive attitude towards people from different lands, races and religions.

The treasure trove of stories in our folklore, have always played a crucial role in the formative years of a child. Grandparents and parents have often narrated stories to kindle the inquisitive minds of young children and bring alive the world of fantasy in the most vivid form. Dylan M Sangma from Class 3A of the Junior Wing got an opportunity to spin a Folktale from the bountiful Garo Hills of Meghalaya at the online Annual Inter School Fest – UNNAT 2020 organised by Indraprastha World School. Dylan represented St. Columba’s School in the Event- Novella- Folktale Narration - Class 3. It was a memorable experience for him to understand and spontaneously relate the story with the help of properties and expressions. Under the guidance of his Elocution teacher and Library teacher, he was groomed and trained to present the story to captivate the attention of the listeners. Wearing the attractive ethnic costume taken and assembled from his mother’s wardrobe, he delivered the tale online, making good use of his toys. Story-telling took him beyond textbooks and also gave him hands on experience on the basics of making a video by himself.

The hard work of the teachers and the student payed off when the results were declared on the 25th of July and Dylan bagged the Second Position in the competition with a Merit Certificate.

He summed up the experience in his own words - “I enjoyed narrating the story more than listening or reading it!”
