Title : EARTH DAY CHALLENGE ( 2020-21 )

Students of St. Columba’s marked Earth day as a day of action and participated in an online competition

The Earth Day is a global campaign marked every year on the 22nd of April and is widely recognized as the largest secular observance in the world. It is observed by more than a billion people every year as a day of action to change human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes. Now, the fight for a clean environment continues with increasing urgency, as the ravages of climate change become more and more apparent every day and civil society mobilization reaching a fever pitch across the globe. At SCS this event is celebrated every year with a one-hour power cut across the school, Earth Day assemblies and other activities to sensitize the school community on the need for urgent lifestyle changes and to make ‘greener’ choices. This year due to the lockdown, a unique online competition was conducted for Classes 11 and 12 so that the students could share their views and use their creativity on Earth Day through videos, photographs, writings and paintings. The participation of students through this online competition was quite good and shows that they are eager to voice their concerns through creative mediums. The students demonstrated a great awareness on the effects of climate change and the problems facing humankind today. The following are the winners of the competition:
