The Parent Orientations for the Junior Wing were held on the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th November for Classes 3, 2, 1 and KG respectively, via the Zoom platform.

The orientations commenced with a prayer song followed by a welcome note by Brother Miranda where he introduced the concept of ‘Competency Based Learning’ to the parents.

The respective coordinators, Mrs Anita Panda for Classes KG and 1 and Miss Vandana Sharma for Classes 2 and 3, apprised the parents about the Inter School Events and Activities; a platform where our students of classes KG-3 exhibited immense potential. They also elaborated on various Intra-School Events and Elocution Activities. Even in these times of pandemic our students not only participated but also excelled in activities like poem recitation, ‘Doha’ competition, storytelling competition, folk tale narrations, virtual science exhibitions, puppet show, art competitions, etc. They mesmerised all with wonderful performances on special occasions like Independence Day, Teachers’ Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Labour Day, etc., in different Assembly Presentations.

Following this, Brother Miranda spoke about the Cumulative Report Card (CRC) in detail and explained the method to fill the same on the school website to the parents. He communicated at great length about the significance of CRC for a student’s holistic development. He expressed that it is imperative to monitor a student’s progress on all parameters including personality traits.

Thereafter the respective coordinators introduced the concept of ‘Competency Based Education’ to the parents. The usage of core competencies creates a competency matrix for the child to determine his skill levels in the core subject at the end of the academic year. The four core competencies are ‘Knowledge’, ‘Skills’, ‘Values’ and ‘Attitude’.

Competency-based Learning is an approach to education that focuses on the student’s demonstration of desired learning outcomes and its relevance to real life. The acronym ‘SMART’ stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable and Time-Bound to achieve learning goals.

The Class Teachers of KG, 1, 2 and 3 explained core competencies for each subject including English-Reading, English-Writing, English-Communication, Maths, Hindi Language and Social Skills followed by the Co-Scholastic teachers who addressed competencies related to Computer Education, Art, Physical Education and Western Music. The Learning Centre Team also discussed the academic and behavioural competencies.

The Junior School Headmistress, Mrs. Ritu Kaushal presented an elaborate PPT and spoke about some very important points.  She discussed the syllabus based on Competency Based Learning for all classes, Assessments for Term-2 (division of marks, etc.) followed by Learning Outcomes for various subjects.

She was happy to update the parents about the forthcoming events like Art Exhibition, Debate Competition, Western Music event, Sports Day, Special Assembles, etc. She also shared the results of parents’ feedback survey regarding Online Teaching. She discussed the challenges faced by parents and students and applauded the parents for their support in the online teaching mode.

Brother Miranda concluded the PO by presenting a heart-warming video on ‘Importance of a FAMILY’ and later took up the queries of parents.
