Title : ENVIRONMENT WEEK- JUNIOR SCHOOL ( 2021-22 )

Little efforts go a long way in protecting the environment!

“Love the Earth as you would love yourself.” – John Denver

We at St. Columba's believe that students need to be sensitized about issues impacting the environment. Thus, we take initiatives in the form of events like the celebration of ‘Environment Week’ wherein the students are engaged in meaningful activities enabling them to understand the importance of saving our environment at a young age and become more responsible towards it as they grow.

During the Environment Week, various activities were organized in the Junior School for students to make them aware of the current environmental issues.

The Kindergarten boys learnt to take care of our mother Earth by segregating the trash in blue and green dustbins. They learnt the concept of wet and dry garbage and practiced disposing them in the appropriate dustbins. During the onsite classes of one week, the boys brought aluminium foil, plastic bottles, paper, onion peels, etc., from their homes; sorted them and threw them in the green and blue dustbins.

The students of Class 1 designed beautiful posters and enjoyed creating craft-work to spread the word for celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali. They felt encouraged to light candles and say ‘NO’ to crackers to celebrate the festivities.

The students of Class 2 participated in different activities like planting saplings and nurturing them, arranging the bookshelves after study time, keeping the surroundings clean, using trash bins, etc., during the Environment week. The purpose of this celebration was to develop awareness to work towards a cleaner and greener Earth among children, which will definitely permeate into society.

The boys of Class 3 designed ‘Pop-Up’ books on the theme of saving Mother Earth. These innovative books highlighted various concepts of saving energy, reusing and recycling things, etc. The students were also encouraged to plant a sapling and water it regularly. A Paper Bag-Making activity was conducted where the students made their own paper bags using old newspapers, magazines and waste paper. The boys also spread a message about the hazardous effects of plastic on the environment. The students were encouraged to be kind and loving to the animals around them as they are also an important part of the environment.

This week-long celebration surely spread a lot of awareness and equipped the boys with a lot of practical tips to protect our environment which they can adopt in their daily lives.
