Title : ANNUAL ONLINE SPORTS DAY- JUNIOR SCHOOL ( 2021-22 )

Fair play, effort, grit and focus – all this and much more make the Columbans true sportsmen!

A spectacular sports day event, ‘Sportsmania’ was organized online by the Junior Wing, St. Columba’s School, on 20th November 2021. The event was a true showcase of team spirit, enthusiasm and frolicsome energy. The event began with a warm welcome being extended to the Chief Guest, Mr. Sanjay Wahi, an ex- Columban and a skilled entrepreneur. An active member the Old Columbans Association and he's currently the treasurer of OCA.

With the grand ceremonial release of balloons by our esteemed Principal, Brother Miranda, Administrator of the Senior Wing, Mr. Chopra, Headmistress of the Middle Wing, Mrs. Aparajita Pal and Headmistress of the Junior Wing, Mrs. Kaushal, the sports day was officially announced open.

An energizing welcome song pumped up the energy of everyone witnessing the show. The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the oath being led by Ethan Stevens from Class 3-D. An alluring Marching Drill by KG boys got the show rolling. The endearing moves by the tiny tots which won all hearts was followed by display of balance and calm by Class 3 and KG students as they presented Flamingo Balance Event, an activity taken up from Fit India Mission in the Junior Wing. The students of classes 1 and 2 displayed body balance through the ‘Vrikshasna’.

Meditative Yoga Asanas namely ‘Vajrasana’, ‘Surya Namaskar’ or Sun Salutation and ‘Trikone Asana’ were performed by boys of Class 1. The audience enjoyed an array of sport activities like Notebook Balance, Blow the Balloons, Zig Zag Running, etc. As an endeavor to spread a word about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals, our Sportsmania brought together our whole school community – our respected Principal, Headmistress, Coordinators, teachers, helping staff, students and parents together in making the world greener. A video montage of the students participating whole heartedly in planting of trees was showcased.

A mesmerizing Sikkimese dance performance soaked in grace left everyone spell bound. The show was re-energized by a splendid Tapping Activity by the boys of all grades in the Junior wing. The sports day progressed with a profusion of activities like Broad Jump, Sack Race, Skipping, Blow the Glass and many more. Zest, zeal and dedication towards sports activities of the students was evident in competitions like Basketball Dribbling, Mat Activity, etc. among several other dynamic sports activities. The vibrant and well-coordinated Fan Drill Display by the boys of Class 2 surely displayed a lot of mind and body coordination. Holding the colourful fans and matching the steps to the count of numbers, they surely exhibited a very well sequenced drill presentation. This year also saw setting a stage to initiate our boys to the basics of varied new sports like Boxing, Football, Hockey, Basketball, etc. These activities surely drew much applause from one and all.

The students of Class 3 combined their dancing skill and sports energy in a Zumba Drill. As the students had vigorously trained throughout the year to display their sporting prowess, parents did not lag behind in showing that they too have the spirit to prove their stamina and sporting talent. The audience saw a graceful Zumba performance by the mothers of many students. Last but definitely not least, we saw a fun Ball Juggling Competition between the teachers of the Junior Wing.

Brother Miranda applauded the efforts taken by all the students and teachers involved in the sports day. He extolled the hard work and energy displayed by the students for all the competitions and performances of the sports day.

Esteemed chairperson Mr. Sanjay Wahi expressed his joy on attending such a vibrant display of sports activities done by the students for the sports day. He nostalgically shared his memories of being on the field as a student. He also congratulated all the students for putting up the sports day even with the restraints of online learning. Mrs. Ritu Kaushal, the Headmistress of the Junior Wing, thanked the chief guest for gracing the event with his presence. She then gave the closing speech and thanked Brother Miranda for always extending his support. Further, she appreciated all the teachers, parents and students for working tirelessly to make the sports day a huge success.

The sports day culminated with the melodious school anthem.
