A spelling competition can spark a love for language and learning in children that will serve them well throughout their lives. The literacy, cognitive and life skills that they develop through study and competing have benefits far beyond the scope of mere spelling ability, reaching into every aspect of life and communication. This will also benefit them with the enhanced vocabulary necessary to better convey their ideas through both written and verbal communication.
The Spellathon competition was conducted online on 10th Feb 2022. The students participated with great enthusiasm as they duelled through the tenacious words. This competition helped students improve their spellings, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts and make correct use of unfamiliar words in speaking and writing.
The competition had two rounds – the first round in which all students from grades 4 to 10 participated on 27th July 2021. The list of words given to the students was prepared meticulously by the subject teachers from their coursebook to enhance comprehension skills and usage. The eligible participants proceeded to the final round. Its criterion was 35% of the list provided earlier; the remaining 65% of the words were age-appropriate. Both the exams were conducted online on Google forms. The exams comprised audios, multiple-choice questions, fill in the blanks and jumbled words.
The students participated diligently on 10th February 2022. The following winners were rewarded with e-certificates for their efforts and initiative:
