Middle School Events Detail

Title : SPLASH - MIDDLE SCHOOL (2017-18)

This annual event is a showcasing of the myriads of talent in our young Columbans. Every department put up an impressive display which was appreciated by one and all.

Splash 2017 was inaugurated by Br. Miranda with words of encouragement to the budding scientists, mathematicians, literary minds, sportspersons et al ..Br and Ms Sheel met the participants and teachers present in the ERH and the middle school and appreciated the commitment and all the hard work that went into making this event a success.

 

A Rendezvous of Creative Minds

The English Department organized a rendezvous of creative minds from classes 4 to 10. It gave our students a chance to exhibit their talents and inclination towards the language. It provided an opportunity for the students to showcase their literary, dramatics and oratory skills. There were around 63 participants from classes 4 to 6 showcasing their talents through Solo recitation, Character Dramatization and delivered speeches of well known personalities. The enthusiastic performers exuded a whole lot of confidence. Their self composed poems put up on display were a treat to the eyes. Classes 7 and 8 students put up book jackets, bookmarks and charts on various poets and authors. A PPT on major poets was also presented. Apart from that students also presented some enactments and recited poems. The theme selected by the students of grade 9-10 was William Shakespeare. Not only the Columbans have participated with full zeal and zest but also they have learnt a lot about the Father of Literature. To add colours to the literary spirit, the students had prepared presentations and played the role dramatizations of Shakespeare's most talked about and famous characters like Othello, King Lear, Prospero, Hamlet etc. Not only the students came dressed up like these characters but also played a small part with their dialogues in front of the esteemed guests. The room was bubbling with the energy of Shakespearean spirit while students were reciting his most famous sonnets and the decor of the room was also apt according to the theme they chose, be it the book covers, posters or the charts anything and everything was covered in Shakespearean spirit! Undoubtedly it was a proud moment to watch our Columbans act like a dream and spread the essence of Shakespeare wrapped in emotions and love for literature.

 

MATHS WIZARDS

Eye capturing rangolis made using tessellation, an informative PowerPoint, useful bookmarks, fun with shapes using cubes and pipes and teaching and testing of Vedic Math tricks were the attractions at the Maths centre.

On the spot time-bound competition was held for interesting and useful tricks like - multiplication at a click, division by 5, the prime detector, squaring of numbers, vertical and crossword trick, multiplication of large numbers etc.

More than two hundred students participated in the competition and the winners deserve a special mention:

Class 6-A: Aaditya Sabharwal

Class 7-A: Shourya Shil

Class 8-D: Aditya Vohra

Class 9-B: Rijul Bas

MUSIC

Classical, pop, rock and jazz were some of the genres on display. The Vocal and Instrumental renditions enthralled and mesmerised the audience. The boys were well trained by our music teacher Sir Mac Donald Samuel.

 

 

HINDI

Hindi Splash began with boys from different classes chanting melodious Shlokas with full devotion. The venue hall had informative & thought provoking posters spread across with the themes around -G.S.T, Water Conservation and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan .On one side books of renowned authors like Munshi Premchand were displayed while on the other side of the hall a Power Point Presentation on activities like 'Hindi Saptah' and different competitions attracted attention. A variety of famous poems were recited by boys of class 7th, 8th and 9th which enthralled the audience. Parents also enjoyed the songs sung by boys of class 6. The highlight of the day was the tabla played by a student of class 6.

 

COMPUTER SCIENCE

Students presented their Models and Charts on the theme of 'What is behind the gadgets'. The main attractions were:

1. Raspberry pi.

2. Go Karting working on voice.

3. Arduino programmed as piano

4. Real time watch and weather report

5. Flappy bird

 

SOCIAL SCIENCE

The Social Science Department, organised an exhibition titled "Evolving planet and Civilisation". The historical era of the medieval period was also showcased. The Middle School library was turned into a vibrant and enthusiastic area in which children were colourfully dressed. The students narrated and enacted the Bhakti movement and the works of various social reformers. Various models showing the soil profile, river drainage system, etc. were also displayed in the library.

 

SCIENCE

The boys of classes 5-10 participated in the science exhibition as a part of "Splash 2017". Boys showed keen interest in making and exhibiting projects and working models that covered topics from physics, chemistry and biology. The concept of conserving and reusing resources was kept in mind as some projects were made from recycled materials.

The highlights of the exhibition were:

HOME SCIENCE

The students of the home science department put up an activity exhibiting know your fabric under the guidance of their teacher. The parents were mighty impressed with their team work and recorded their appreciation in the feedback form.

 

SPORTS

The physical educators displayed the medals and trophies that the students won in various sporting activities, inhouse and out of school. The members of the school sporting team put up charts displaying themselves and the activity they participated in.

 

PANCHTATVA MELA

The panchtatva mela based on five basic elements of the universe: air, water, earth, fire and space was inaugurated by Br. James and Ms. Sheel. Our special guest was Br. Steve Rocha. The mela had awareness games organised by the students of class 9. To represent the earth element, there was a potter who made beautiful artefacts of clay. There was also a display and sale of various objects made from waste by underprivileged children. These were greatly appreciated by one and all. The aim of this mela was to reinforce the bond between child and nature.

 

GERMAN

The theme of the German exhibition was Know more about Germany'. Various things were put on display. There was a "Did you know" section telling some facts about Germany. Charts and posters were put up covering different aspects of Germany such as Facts on Berlin Wall, Car manufacturers in Germany, famous tourist attractions, Inventors of Germany. There was also a sketch of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel drawn by one class 8 student, some colourful sketches of characters from fairy tales and a model of the Berlin wall. Apart from that the longest word in German along with other long words were put on display. Also, there were tongue twisters, sun signs, months, weeks, food & drinks and Professions presented in German language.

In addition to that a Selfie-booth was set up at one corner inviting visitors to get themselves clicked with some German cut outs and quotes. Students and their parents really liked it. There was also a PowerPoint presentation on Traits in Germany prepared by 2 students of class 7 which was shown to interested visitors. Information brochures about the German library at Goethe Institut were also distributed and freebies like badges and caps were given to all the students who were on duty. Mr. Olav Schroer from Goethe Institut also visited our exhibition. He interacted with the students and uploaded our display on the PASCH- Goethe Institut South Asia website. Br. Miranda, Ms. Sheel and the teachers visited the German corner and praised the efforts of all those who worked as a team to present the German exhibition.

 

Spanish

The Spanish department put up exhibits that introduced one and all to the culture of Spain. Charts, posters and artefacts made by the students was appreciated by one and all.
