Title : READING WEEK JUNIOR SCHOOL ( 2022-23 )

Reading constitutes a very important part of a child’s mental and intellectual development. During the digital invasion of our lives, when young minds have been exposed to so much of audio visual stimuli, a task like reading may feel mundane and boring to our young learners.

However, reading is not only an important part of academic life but it also exposes our minds to a whole new perspective on different issues. Reading is also an important source of gaining information, which is a huge part of a learner's growth.

Keeping the same in mind a Reading Week was celebrated in the Junior School in the first week of August 2022. Through this we aimed to inculcate among our students a love for reading books. The reading week was in sync with the CBSE circular guiding schools to take up various reading activities especially in junior classes to evoke the interest of students to read.
Various activities were conducted by the Librarian during the Library periods focusing on different graded stories for classes 1 to 3.

A puppet show was organized for the students of Class 1 and the story “A Hungry Caterpillar” was narrated with the help of puppets. Students enacted the story according to the narration. The students were also encouraged to draw and colour the picture of a caterpillar.
Class 2 boys enjoyed an interactive session based story of “Little Red Riding Hood” followed by story analysis and MCQs. The students were encouraged to identify different parts of the story and discuss the same.
For Class 3 students, a story sequencing activity was arranged based on the story of Cinderella. The students participated enthusiastically and enjoyed the activity. They even marked the correct sequence of the events in their worksheets.
Students were reminded to find time and make reading a daily habit. They were further urged to read a variety of books and pay attention to the upkeep of their books as well.
The students participated wholeheartedly and thoroughly enjoyed the activities of the Reading Week. They showed great enthusiasm and excitement over the prospect of future reading and story sessions.
